Wikileaks claims it's under DDoS attack, but release will go on http://bit.ly/gKCIkL (CNN) - - - Lauren's comments: Hours before its planned mass release of diplomatic cables and other information, Wikileaks claims it's under a mass DDoS attack (which of course will not stop their data release in any significant way). Governments around the world are upset about this data, especially due to the embarrassment that could be caused by making publicly known what they *really* think about each other, rather than the veneer of public statements that we usually receive. Most of this data is apparently marked either Confidential or Secret. Very little if any TS or higher classification data is reportedly present. The source of this data appears to be an interagency sharing pool set up to "enhance" intelligence capabilities post-9/11. There are reports that something on the order of 2.5 million (!) people have or had legitimate access to some or all of that data. --Lauren-- Lauren Weinstein (lauren@vortex.com) http://www.vortex.com/lauren Tel: +1 (818) 225-2800 Co-Founder, PFIR (People For Internet Responsibility): http://www.pfir.org Founder, NNSquad (Network Neutrality Squad): http://www.nnsquad.org Founder, GCTIP (Global Coalition for Transparent Internet Performance): http://www.gctip.org Founder, PRIVACY Forum: http://www.vortex.com Member, ACM Committee on Computers and Public Policy Lauren's Blog: http://lauren.vortex.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/laurenweinstein Google Buzz: http://bit.ly/lauren-buzz
