[ NNSquad ] E-mails directed to judge trigger contempt jailing ruling
Jail Time Ordered for Infomercial King Who Blasted Judge With Email http://bit.ly/bka03B (WSJ) Without addressing the underlying guilt or innocence of the defendant, it seems an extreme reaction by the judge -- in the absence of any law or order directly prohibiting the action -- to consider the solicitation of e-mailed testimonials to the judge to be an actionable offense. And if 300 e-mails were enough to crash the judge's e-mail account, perhaps the Chicago District Court should be looking seriously at Google Apps -- or at least some mail system that doesn't operate with a hand-crank. --Lauren-- NNSquad Moderator
