[ NNSquad ] HBO Shows Online Video Service HBOGO -- the world has changed

I have FiOS with HBO so I immediately signed up.

I then went over to the MAC I use for Hulu when I exercise and switched it to use my Comcast IP connection via 802.11n.

And went to HBOGo.

And it worked even though I don’t have an HBO subscription from Comcast!

Or !!!

They do seem to limit the number of concurrent signons which is not surprising.

We have now decoupled “cable” from “the cable”.

This is not entirely new – you can subscribe to Starz directly and there is Hulu, Netflix etc. But this is HBO as part of my “cable” package. I see this as an inflection point. The software is better than the STB in many ways but still has a way to go and there are issues to be sorted out but we’ve crossed the Rubicon (even if it wasn’t that big of a river).

I’d like to learn more as this plays out.

This makes a lot more sense that Verizon’s attempt to add widgets to their STB.
