[ NNSquad ] Re: Got $55K to spare for ICANN?

Lauren,

I usually am very happy with the information you send out on NNSquad and I refrained from replying to your first message about ICANN, but Seth's follow-up is, I'm afraid, pointing your readers to the wrong direction:
The IRT Team is old news. Sensing that there was no clear consensus in the community regarding many of the IRT's proposal, the GNSO put together a Special Trademark Issues (STI) Review Team which came-up with a new set of recommendations.
The STI recommendations can be downloaded from:
http://www.icann.org/en/public-comment/#sti
and the comment period is still open until the 26th January 2010.

I hope that you and your readers will take the time to read through the report, and comment accordingly. It is with *your* input that we can improve ICANN processes together.

Warmest regards,

Olivier
At Large alternate in the STI Review Team

[ Thanks Seth. I'm sitting here trying to think of the right
words to describe the passion shown in the latter three videos
that you list below. I'll just say that this is important viewing
for anyone concerned about domain names, trademarks, and the
intersection of the two. This is also YouTube showing its
public interest value in clear terms indeed.

Hi Lauren --

The gTLD "Implementation Recommendation Team" (IRT) did a tour of
various cities presenting their plans, starting this past summer,
including NYC. You can find their summary of their proposals,
mostly dealing with trademark questions, here:

Here you can find the questions I posed to them, which it sounds
to me like you will find intriguing:

Kathy Kleiman has been a leader in public interest advocacy at
ICANN for years -- here are her comments:

And the irrepressible Jay Sulzberger elicited the line of the day
from the IRT panel: "We don't exist":

Also see John Berryhill and Phil Corwin in the related videos list.
