[ NNSquad ] Details of Australian 100Mb national Internet FTTP project
Here's a press release regarding the announced Australian national government plan to bring 100 Mb/s FTTP Internet to 90% of the population (and 12 Mb/s satellite/wireless to the rural areas). Notably, this is described as a wholesale-only, open access network, which means that ISP competition is built-in to the plan. Not mentioned is how the ongoing push by the Oz government for a massive Internet filtering (censorship) regime by ISPs will fit into this project. A few days ago a reporter asked me why the U.S. ranked so low in broadband speeds/deployment vs. the rest of the world. The answer to that question for most of us on this list is certainly obvious. http://www.minister.dbcde.gov.au/media/speeches/2009/013 --Lauren-- NNSquad Moderator
