Google announces physical USB login security keys "Strengthening 2-Step Verification with Security Key" (Google): http://googleonlinesecurity.blogspot.com/2014/10/strengthening-2-step-verification-with.html "Today we're adding even stronger protection for particularly security-sensitive individuals. Security Key is a physical USB second factor that only works after verifying the login site is truly a Google website, not a fake site pretending to be Google. Rather than typing a code, just insert Security Key into your computer's USB port and tap it when prompted in Chrome. When you sign into your Google Account using Chrome and Security Key, you can be sure that the cryptographic signature cannot be phished." - - - I've been using these USB security keys for quite a while now. They're not perfect at this fairly early stage in the evolution of the ecosystem, but are a giant step forward in authentication security. I urge you to consider using them. --Lauren-- Lauren Weinstein (lauren@vortex.com): http://www.vortex.com/lauren Founder: - Network Neutrality Squad: http://www.nnsquad.org - PRIVACY Forum: http://www.vortex.com/privacy-info Co-Founder: People For Internet Responsibility: http://www.pfir.org/pfir-info Member: ACM Committee on Computers and Public Policy I am a consultant to Google -- I speak only for myself, not for them.
