Yahoo's webcam spying fiasco (GCHQ) http://j.mp/1cW7Q57 (Guardian) "The documents also chronicle GCHQ's sustained struggle to keep the large store of sexually explicit imagery collected by Optic Nerve away from the eyes of its staff, though there is little discussion about the privacy implications of storing this material in the first place." - - - This project was only possible of course since Yahoo was apparently not encrypting this data -- which I believe they were explicitly warned about long ago. And though this report only discusses the GCHQ-related ops, we can safely assume that other intelligence services in the EU, Russia, China, et al. were operating similar programs to the maximal extent of their technological capabilities. --Lauren-- Lauren Weinstein (lauren@vortex.com): http://www.vortex.com/lauren Co-Founder: People For Internet Responsibility: http://www.pfir.org/pfir-info Founder: - Network Neutrality Squad: http://www.nnsquad.org - PRIVACY Forum: http://www.vortex.com/privacy-info Member: ACM Committee on Computers and Public Policy Lauren's Blog: http://lauren.vortex.com Google+: http://google.com/+LaurenWeinstein Twitter: http://twitter.com/laurenweinstein Tel: +1 (818) 225-2800 / Skype: vortex.com _______________________________________________ nnsquad mailing list http://lists.nnsquad.org/mailman/listinfo/nnsquad
