Gigabit project in Seattle reportedly dead, leaves trail of unpaid bills http://j.mp/1iUwOWd (Ars Technica) "The Gigabit Squared project to bring fiber Internet to Seattle is reportedly dead, with the company having failed to pay more than $50,000 to the city. Newly sworn in Mayor Ed Murray "has declared the city's deal with startup broadband company Gigabit Squared dead," according to a Puget Sound Business Journal article yesterday. "Murray confirmed that the deal with Gigabit Squared had fallen through." Murray received a donation from Comcast, which could lose customers to a fiber network, but told Ars before the mayoral election that he would not change the city's gigabit plan. In fact, the problems with the Gigabit Squared plan started before Murray was sworn in on January 1." - - - --Lauren-- Lauren Weinstein (lauren@vortex.com): http://www.vortex.com/lauren Co-Founder: People For Internet Responsibility: http://www.pfir.org/pfir-info Founder: - Network Neutrality Squad: http://www.nnsquad.org - PRIVACY Forum: http://www.vortex.com/privacy-info Member: ACM Committee on Computers and Public Policy Lauren's Blog: http://lauren.vortex.com Google+: http://google.com/+LaurenWeinstein Twitter: http://twitter.com/laurenweinstein Tel: +1 (818) 225-2800 / Skype: vortex.com _______________________________________________ nnsquad mailing list http://lists.nnsquad.org/mailman/listinfo/nnsquad
