Google to start selling user endorsements in ads, but with opt-out (unlike Facebook) http://j.mp/1bj1yJW (Google+ / New York Times) Unlike Facebook, Google is wisely allowing users to opt-out of this program. I have chosen to exercise that option. More to say when more details are known. I don't have ads on my own sites and I'm personally uninterested in lending my endorsement to other parties' ads. Your mileage -- as the saying goes -- of course may vary. Addendum: This setting is already available (thanks Google!): http://j.mp/1bj8jvb (Google+ settings) My fundamental problem with this kind of system isn't with endorsing products and services per se, but with endorsing specific advertisers about whom I may know nothing and might be unwilling to recommend if I did -- and not all advertisers of the same product or service are created equal. --Lauren-- Lauren Weinstein (lauren@vortex.com): http://www.vortex.com/lauren Co-Founder: People For Internet Responsibility: http://www.pfir.org/pfir-info Founder: - Network Neutrality Squad: http://www.nnsquad.org - PRIVACY Forum: http://www.vortex.com/privacy-info Member: ACM Committee on Computers and Public Policy Lauren's Blog: http://lauren.vortex.com Google+: http://google.com/+LaurenWeinstein Twitter: http://twitter.com/laurenweinstein Tel: +1 (818) 225-2800 / Skype: vortex.com _______________________________________________ nnsquad mailing list http://lists.nnsquad.org/mailman/listinfo/nnsquad
