Users concerned about sudden shutdown of Google SMS Search "Google shuts down SMS Search, users express outrage" http://j.mp/13tkrYe (Fierce Mobile Content) "Many users expressed frustration and disappointment over Google's decision. 'Google's decision to shut down the SMS search service only serves to widen the information divide between the haves and have-nots ...'" - - - I've received considerable concerned queries about this. Obviously only Google knows to what extent SMS Search was utilized, and it's a safe bet that it was a very small relative amount. However, it also seems reasonable to assume that for those users who used it the service was indeed important to them. What's especially perplexing is that there was reportedly no prior warning of this shutdown, and there certainly were various channels through which that could have been accomplished. --Lauren-- Lauren Weinstein (lauren@vortex.com): http://www.vortex.com/lauren Co-Founder: People For Internet Responsibility: http://www.pfir.org/pfir-info Founder: - Network Neutrality Squad: http://www.nnsquad.org - PRIVACY Forum: http://www.vortex.com/privacy-info - Data Wisdom Explorers League: http://www.dwel.org - Global Coalition for Transparent Internet Performance: http://www.gctip.org Member: ACM Committee on Computers and Public Policy Lauren's Blog: http://lauren.vortex.com Google+: http://vortex.com/g+lauren / Twitter: http://vortex.com/t-lauren Tel: +1 (818) 225-2800 / Skype: vortex.com _______________________________________________ nnsquad mailing list http://lists.nnsquad.org/mailman/listinfo/nnsquad
