[ NNSquad ] Fake Boston Bombing messages flooding the Net
Fake Boston Bombing messages flooding the Net Just a quick warning. Fake "Boston Bombing" messages are now flooding email all over the Net. They use a variety of subject lines either claiming breaking news, video of the explosions, or various permutations. Inside these messages there is usually just a single link, often with a numeric IP address URL. Obviously, these are fake messages and dangerous links likely leading to malware of various kinds. While most experienced users would never fall for these, the emotion of the moment could lead to some reflexive clicking that could likely be damaging to your systems. Please stay aware, and warn your friends/relatives to be particularly alert for email-based scams related to this tragedy. As for the scum sending out such garbage, they are below contempt and in an orderly universe would suffer a fate similar to that of mosquitos hitting an electric bug zapper. Take care. --Lauren-- Lauren Weinstein (lauren@vortex.com): http://www.vortex.com/lauren Co-Founder: People For Internet Responsibility: http://www.pfir.org/pfir-info Founder: - Network Neutrality Squad: http://www.nnsquad.org - PRIVACY Forum: http://www.vortex.com/privacy-info - Data Wisdom Explorers League: http://www.dwel.org - Global Coalition for Transparent Internet Performance: http://www.gctip.org Member: ACM Committee on Computers and Public Policy Lauren's Blog: http://lauren.vortex.com Google+: http://vortex.com/g+lauren / Twitter: http://vortex.com/t-lauren Tel: +1 (818) 225-2800 / Skype: vortex.com _______________________________________________ nnsquad mailing list http://lists.nnsquad.org/mailman/listinfo/nnsquad
