Microsoft attempts to minimize announcement of privacy changes

"Earlier this year, Google announced a privacy policy change that was
widely covered by tech blogs, the mainstream press and which generated
much governmental concern. Last month, Microsoft announced the same
type of change. That generated little reaction. Either Microsoft's
change deserved the same scrutiny from all the same parties that
examined Google so closely or Google got unfairly attacked."

A couple of notes on this good summary by Danny Sullivan -- I
initially discussed the Google Privacy Policy changes back in late
January, in "Google's Privacy Policy Changes: Revolution? Evolution? Or
Confusion?": http://j.mp/yPZ27Y (Lauren's Blog) // Bottom
line? Really not a big deal -- nothing to get upset about. Also, I
recently received a couple of copies of the Microsoft email about
their own privacy changes. They were really so badly written that my
initial reaction was to check the full headers to determine whether
they looked legit or not. The real story here is that Google was
seriously proactive about explaining their changes, and Microsoft is
obviously trying to low-ball their announcements. Typical creepy
Microsoft modus operandi.
