Court Rules Website Immune From Suit For Defamatory Posting http://j.mp/w4pF48 (Slashdot) "RipoffReport.com contained an admittedly defamatory posting, by one of its users, about a person who operated a Florida corporation providing addiction treatment services. Although the site was asked by the poster herself to remove the post, it refused." - - - This is a particularly nasty situation. My sense is that this will end badly. This is just the type of scenario that will trigger understandable outrage and knee-jerk legislative reactions with far-reaching consequences. The site in this case -- by operating in the manner it is -- will ultimately be serving the interests of those who want to massively restrict free speech. --Lauren-- Lauren Weinstein (lauren@vortex.com): http://www.vortex.com/lauren Co-Founder: People For Internet Responsibility: http://www.pfir.org Founder: - Network Neutrality Squad: http://www.nnsquad.org - Global Coalition for Transparent Internet Performance: http://www.gctip.org - PRIVACY Forum: http://www.vortex.com Member: ACM Committee on Computers and Public Policy Blog: http://lauren.vortex.com Google+: http://vortex.com/g+lauren Twitter: https://twitter.com/laurenweinstein Tel: +1 (818) 225-2800 / Skype: vortex.com _______________________________________________ nnsquad mailing list http://lists.nnsquad.org/mailman/listinfo/nnsquad
