Steve Perlman's supposedly super Shannon slicing wireless tech paper http://j.mp/ptDhIR (This message on Google+) - - - "Distributed-Input-Distributed-Output (DIDO) Wireless Technology A New Approach to Multiuser Wireless" http://j.mp/rpKOMU (Paper on Reardon.com [PDF]) The link above is for the actual paper referenced in NNSquad a couple of days ago ( http://j.mp/n7IkDm ). It is comparatively light on details. I didn't comment earlier on this, but I'll say now that I am, uh, "skeptical" regarding the real-world performance of this system vis-a-vis existing somewhat similar methodologies, particularly at the multiplier rates that are being touted. Aside from the nitty-gritty RF air link and Shannon limit issues, I would add that the logistical, security, and privacy concerns invoked by his proposed system, which requires massive centralization of data feeds, are, shall we say, formidable, except perhaps in circumscribed enterprise environments. --Lauren-- Lauren Weinstein (lauren@vortex.com): http://www.vortex.com/lauren Co-Founder: People For Internet Responsibility: http://www.pfir.org Founder: - Network Neutrality Squad: http://www.nnsquad.org - Global Coalition for Transparent Internet Performance: http://www.gctip.org - PRIVACY Forum: http://www.vortex.com Member: ACM Committee on Computers and Public Policy Blog: http://lauren.vortex.com Google+: http://vortex.com/g+lauren Twitter: https://twitter.com/laurenweinstein Tel: +1 (818) 225-2800 / Skype: vortex.com
