"The results of four studies suggest that when faced with difficult
questions, people are primed to think about computers and that when
people expect to have future access to information, they have lower
rates of recall of the information itself and enhanced recall instead
for where to access it. The Internet has become a primary form of
external or transactive memory, where information is stored
     collectively outside ourselves."

"The Internet has taken a major place in the circle of friends where
people look for information, she concludes in Thursday's online
edition of the journal Science. It used to be folks turned to friends
    - someone who knows all about baseball, or the weather or presidents
or movies. People knew who to ask. Now, Sparrow found in a series of
experiments, people are more likely to know where to look for the
    information on the Internet."
