"Google introduces Facebook competitor, emphasizing privacy" + my comments http://j.mp/lWG7hE (This message on Google Buzz) - - - http://j.mp/kW4MXr (NDTV) http://j.mp/jPHO6F (Official Google Blog) "Google took its biggest leap yet onto Facebook's turf on Tuesday, introducing a social networking service called the Google+ project -- which happens to look very much like Facebook. The service, which will initially be available only to a select group of Google users who will soon be able to invite others, will let people share and discuss status updates, photos and links." - - - My initial impression (after a relatively brief period of exploration so far) is that the interface, defaults, tools for "compartmentalization" of sharing groups ("Circles"), as well as overall privacy controls -- are all well thought out. I'll have additional comments after I've had time to explore the environment in depth. --Lauren-- Lauren Weinstein (lauren@vortex.com): http://www.vortex.com/lauren Co-Founder: People For Internet Responsibility: http://www.pfir.org Founder: - Network Neutrality Squad: http://www.nnsquad.org - Global Coalition for Transparent Internet Performance: http://www.gctip.org - PRIVACY Forum: http://www.vortex.com Member: ACM Committee on Computers and Public Policy Blog: http://lauren.vortex.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/laurenweinstein Google Buzz: http://j.mp/laurenbuzz Tel: +1 (818) 225-2800 / Skype: vortex.com
