Cisco sued for helping China build censorship/persecution regime http://bit.ly/mqeWTk (This message on Google Buzz) - - - "Once the rockets are up, who cares where they come down? 'That's not my department!' says Wernher von Braun." -- Tom Lehrer http://j.mp/kBvLIt (Yahoo News) "Members of the Falun Gong spiritual movement have filed a lawsuit against Cisco Systems Inc. accusing it of supplying the Chinese government with computer-networking equipment used to spy on and persecute dissidents." - - - Actions have consequences. However, not all corporations are ethically vacuous and willing to sell their stockholders' souls to the Chinese government. There's an enormous difference between engaging with the Chinese people in a positive way -- always an act to be encouraged -- vs. actively working to enable oppression and worse through provisioning of advanced technological infrastructure that one realistically already knows is going to be used as a "boot to the head" of the population. --Lauren-- Lauren Weinstein (lauren@vortex.com): http://www.vortex.com/lauren Co-Founder: People For Internet Responsibility: http://www.pfir.org Founder: - Network Neutrality Squad: http://www.nnsquad.org - Global Coalition for Transparent Internet Performance: http://www.gctip.org - PRIVACY Forum: http://www.vortex.com Member: ACM Committee on Computers and Public Policy Blog: http://lauren.vortex.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/laurenweinstein Google Buzz: http://j.mp/laurenbuzz Tel: +1 (818) 225-2800 / Skype: vortex.com
