Mozilla refusing DHS request to remove domain "redirection" Mozilla add-on http://j.mp/jbUAZE (This message in Google Buzz) - - - http://j.mp/jhpqMR (IT World) "The open-source Mozilla project said Thursday it won't comply with a U.S. Department of Homeland Security request to remove a Firefox add-on that helps redirect Web traffic for sites that have been seized by the government." - - - Make *no* mistake about it, this is actually another attempt at censorship and information control, of trying to equate linking with illegalities, as I described in my "Censorship, Governments, and Flagellating Google" white paper yesterday: ( http://j.mp/iGGojs [Lauren's Blog] ) In this case, it is of the "nod and wink" variety, where a court order isn't even produced. Unfortunately, many firms are much more receptive to this underhanded approach than Mozilla and Google, who both appropriately resist such tactics. --Lauren-- Lauren Weinstein (lauren@vortex.com): http://www.vortex.com/lauren Co-Founder: People For Internet Responsibility: http://www.pfir.org Founder: - Network Neutrality Squad: http://www.nnsquad.org - Global Coalition for Transparent Internet Performance: http://www.gctip.org - PRIVACY Forum: http://www.vortex.com Member: ACM Committee on Computers and Public Policy Blog: http://lauren.vortex.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/laurenweinstein Google Buzz: http://j.mp/laurenbuzz Tel: +1 (818) 225-2800 / Skype: vortex.com
