Pot Calling Kettle Black: China's Report on U.S. Human Rights, Internet, etc. http://j.mp/eJjhMI (ars technica) Upset over the US State Department's annual human rights report, China publishes a report of its own on various US ills. This year, it calls attention to America's border laptop searches, its attitude toward WikiLeaks, and the prevalence of online pornography. - - - While much of what the Chinese report states is clearly accurate, the hypocrisy of China issuing such a report, with its own vast human rights abuses and Internet censorship system, is still striking. Of course, with U.S. legislators and associated minions (and lobbyists) busily planning for the imposition of vast new censorship and information control regimes on search engines and others here, this is a situation where China may soon want to pat the U.S. on the back for "seeing the light" and imposing Chinese-style thought control. --Lauren-- Lauren Weinstein (lauren@vortex.com): http://www.vortex.com/lauren Co-Founder: People For Internet Responsibility: http://www.pfir.org Founder: - Network Neutrality Squad: http://www.nnsquad.org - Global Coalition for Transparent Internet Performance: http://www.gctip.org - PRIVACY Forum: http://www.vortex.com Member: ACM Committee on Computers and Public Policy Blog: http://lauren.vortex.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/laurenweinstein Google Buzz: http://j.mp/laurenbuzz Quora: http://www.quora.com/Lauren-Weinstein Tel: +1 (818) 225-2800 / Skype: vortex.com
