Netflix cuts default data rate in Canada due to usage-sensitive
billing fears

Of course cable systems' own video services never have to worry about
cutting back on both data rates and video quality, since the cable
systems don't apply bandwidth caps to their own video services, only
to the services of competitors. And the cable systems also get to
determine the allocation of total cable bandwidth between their own
services and public Internet capacity. Now that's entertainment!

Oh yes -- and Netflix claims they can so easily really reduce typical
bandwidth by two-thirds with "minimal impact on video quality" ... ?
I'd like to know more about their codec usage ...
