Netflix cuts default data rate in Canada due to usage-sensitive billing fears http://j.mp/dRXRpZ (Reuters / Huffington) Of course cable systems' own video services never have to worry about cutting back on both data rates and video quality, since the cable systems don't apply bandwidth caps to their own video services, only to the services of competitors. And the cable systems also get to determine the allocation of total cable bandwidth between their own services and public Internet capacity. Now that's entertainment! Oh yes -- and Netflix claims they can so easily really reduce typical bandwidth by two-thirds with "minimal impact on video quality" ... ?
