Bing's Japan Quake Support Offer: Critics' Obscenities Missing Forest for the Trees I find this situation very disturbing. Bing's Twitter account tweeted that Bing will give $1 to Japan quake victims for every retweet of that tweet, up to $100K. The most visible reaction of the Net has been a tirade of obscenities thrown at Bing/MS over this, arguing that they shouldn't try to "boost their brand recognition" as a "requirement" of giving money to quake victims in any instance. E.g.: http://j.mp/h7Nmh6 (Gawker - *Warning: Language*) If anyone wants to argue the "proper protocol" for donating funds in a terrible disaster, I would hope that they would at least wait until the victims have been dug out and the bodies of the dead are cold. I'm not a fan of Bing, and there's plenty of time later on to discuss whether Bing's publicity approach to this particular donation was tasteless and inappropriate or not. What matters right now is that the quake victims get the money, and however Bing/MS wants to get it to them, that's fine by me at this particular moment. Show some sense of proper priorities, people.
