[ NNSquad ] T-Mobile UK "clarifies" position, says existing subs are grandfathered
T-Mobile UK clarifies mobile phone data cap http://bit.ly/i43YAF (BBC) Of course this does not make clear what happens to existing subs when their current contracts expire. Can they extend on the same terms, or do they become subject to the new caps? This can even be unclear here in the U.S. with T-Mobile. Initially, the Android "unlimited" data plan was apparenty "capped" (before drastic throughput reductions) at 10GB/mo. But now Android "unlimited" data plans are reportedly capped at 5GB. It's also not clear how this affects original G1 data plan users who have been grandfathered for that plan onto newer devices. My guess is that the 5GB limit applies throughout. See: http://bit.ly/eKH0NT (Talk Android) A couple of years ago, a similar page at T-M U.S. cited a 10GB cap for what was actually a less expensive plan. --Lauren-- NNSquad Moderator - - - The company initially said that it would slash the amount of data all of its customers could use to 500 MB. For Android handset owners, previously allocated 3GB per month, the drop would have been more than 80%. But the company has now said that the changes would be introduced from 1 February, "to new and upgrading customers only". "There will be no change to the data packages for existing customers for the duration of their contract and we apologise for any confusion caused," said Lysa Hard, VP for T-Mobile UK.
