FCC Dems Narrowing Network Neutrality Gaps - - - A couple of points. One, as I've said before, it's obvious that anything the FCC enacts in this regard will be dragged into courts indefinitely. This applies to *any* action related to the Internet. It is in the interests of various entities to try make sure that FCC authority relating to the Net is challenged at every opportunity. And that's not even considering the likely involvement of Big Telecom's fawning minions in Congress who also will attempt to block any action -- earning back their decades of lush campaign contributions toward creating an anticompetitive telecom landscape that is the laughingstock of the rest of the industrialized world. Oh, and while it may not be there by the time you see the article referenced below, currently it is accompanied by an ad for another of those snarky, childish, and misleading AT&T Policy Blog postings, this time trying to be "retro-hip" by explicitly invoking the "Goes to 11" imagery of "This is Spinal Tap," relating to the Level 3 vs. Comcast dispute, but only coming across like a lame propagandist. I'm unsure that I've ever seen full blown display ads specifically for policy blog postings from any other major Internet-related firm other than AT&T. Chairman Genachowski needs the support of Commissioners Michael Copps and Mignon Clyburn to approve his network neutrality proposal, which would create enforceable rules designed to protect the openness that is the Internet's hallmark. While both Commissioners Copps and Clyburn are network neutrality advocates, they've complained that the chairman's framework cuts too many breaks for major telecommunications and cable providers of broadband. The two Republicans on the five-member commission remain staunchly opposed, arguing that the proposed rules amount to unnecessary government regulation of the Internet. An FCC source familiar with the negotiations said progress is being made in three key areas: addressing concerns about wireless carriers, limiting Internet toll lanes and adding protections for a new online pricing model. <http://techdailydose.nationaljournal.com/2010/12/exclusive-fccs-dems-narrowing.php> Courtesy of the Benton Foundation <http://www.benton.org> Dewayne-Net RSS Feed: <http://www.warpspeed.com/wordpress> ------------------------------------------- Archives: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/247/=now RSS Feed: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/rss/247/125750-544611b7 Modify Your Subscription: https://www.listbox.com/member/?member_id=125750&id_secret=125750-5bb6cf56 Unsubscribe Now: https://www.listbox.com/unsubscribe/?member_id=125750&id_secret=125750-6876700a&post_id=20101220112435:A0D86AD8-0C55-11E0-A58B-A4E1C5F4DBAC Powered by Listbox: http://www.listbox.com ----- End forwarded message -----
