Thirteen supporters of a strong open Internet plan told FCC Commissioner
Michael Copps at a Dec. 9 meeting of "their unanimous unwillingness to
support the proposed open Internet framework in its present form as they
understand it." That's the version being circulated by FCC Chairman
Julius Genachowski.
The companies and public-interest groups said they had supported an
earlier version of the Genachowski plan, as proposed by House Commerce
Committee Chairman Henry Waxman, because it was a temporary measure, and
was a floor, not a ceiling. Even those who supported it earlier this
year, did so understanding that it had flaws.
Here's who was at the meeting: Jeffrey Blum, Dish Network; Parul
Desai, Consumers Union; Michael Drobac, Netflix; Harold Feld, Public
Knowledge; Michael Forscey, Writers Guild West; Joel Kelsey, Free Press;
Sascha Meinrath, New America Foundation; Emmett O’Keefe, Amazon.com;
Staci Pies, Skype; Andrew Jay Schwartzman, Media Access Project; Gigi
Sohn, Public Knowledge; Aparna Sridhar, Free Press.
Here's the official report of the meeting as filed with the FCC (aka an ex
parte filing).
