In Germany, Google Street View opt-outs getting egged http://bit.ly/gpacRS (Search Engine Land) This is a wonderful example of unintended consequences in action. By opting-out, those residents have actually *drawn attention* to themselves ("gee, let's go see what's so interesting that they're hiding!"). If they had simply allowed their locations to be shown like any others in Street View, they would have just been buried in the noise. It's sort of like when there's a very public takedown battle over Internet content -- that ends up drawing far more attention to the material than would otherwise have been the case.
