How to buy Google for One *Million* Dollars (or maybe $750K) -- plus a lame tactic by Snopes.com - - - When Google Wanted To Sell To Excite For Under $1 Million - And They Passed: http://bit.ly/9kQWDg (TechCrunch) That's *million* Dr. Evil, not *billion* ... And back in 1876, the Telegraph Company (ancestor of Western Union), was offered the key Bell telephone patents for $100K (in 1876 dollars of course, but still a relative pittance). The decision: "In view of these facts, we feel that Mr. G.G. Hubbard's request for $100,000 of the sale of this patent is utterly unreasonable, since this device is inherently of no use to us. We do not recommend its purchase." Oh, and let's throw in Ken Olsen's notorious statement as founder and CEO of DEC, back in 1977: "There is no reason for any individual to have a computer in his home." - - - In the process of writing this posting, I noticed that Snopes -- which I greatly respect -- at least appears to have rigged their site to try prevent copying any text to clipboards, even in fair use legitimate situations.
