Microsoft research on password selections
http://bit.ly/a2eEf5 (MIT Technology Review)In addition to random strings for higher security logins, I'm
personally a fan of:
a) misspelled words in combination with
b) multiple words
e.g.:
muNFeeVermarsh
can be remembered as: "moon fever marsh"

I personally suggest to my users to use keyboard patterns, rather than letter/word patterns. Hold shift for every
other key press, and make a heart-shape series of key-presses starting with your favorite letter on the bottom row. Things like that. It's far easier to imagine AND remember a visual pattern, while maintaining all of the benefits from truly complex passwords. Need to change your password every 20 days? Shift the heart to the left once character. Instantly you have a completely different password, but only made a single, easy to remember change.
