[ NNSquad ] Archos 5 Internet Tablet
If you're like me, you consider your cellphone a more disposable item than your PDA.
Makes sense (to me anyway) that the Cellphone will get use and abused and dropped and sat on. All the kinds of use that cellphones endure favor it's breaking sooner than later.
My PDA on the other hand (a lovely Palm T|X which I love) is cared for, rides in a padded case while being used with a little bit more care than my phone.
I've gone through several phones and still have the same Palm T|X that I've had for years.
Unfortunately, the Palm line of PDA's are dinosaurs in the making. Palm has moved their biz to make phone/pda's while access (who bought the PalmOS) seems to be more interested in embedded Linux.
So I'm just counting the days.
Today though, I got an ad from Newegg (I love newegg!) for the Archos 5 Internet tablet which appears to be a Google Android platform without the phone!

So it's nice to see that someone might be offering a device that I, the fan of separate phone & PDA, can move to that enjoys all the open-platform-ness of Google's Android without being tethered to some undesirable phone carrier. (Which is why I thought I would mention it here.)
An Android device without the insane cellular packages that come with them.
To me, that's nice and net-neutral. Telecom-Net that is. ;)

[ It appears that a plethora of tablets will be hitting the market soon, and it is certain that many or most will run Android, for a range of fairly obvious reasons. However, I still haven't figured out exactly how you're supposed to carry one of those things conveniently if you're a male sans a briefcase (or purse!)
