[ NNSquad ] L.A. Times "Pushing" Facebook Accounts
The L.A. Times appears to be phasing out their own user logins for "full access," newsletters, and the like, and is obviously transitioning to a "social experience" modality -- whether their readers want to be social or not, apparently. While my existing L.A. Times account of many years standing may (not confirmed) still give access to all normal sections of the publication, it doesn't appear possible (as far as I can tell right now) to access the account profiles for newsletters without using one of the Times' associated "social account partners" (my wording, not theirs). And while I have not received such a notice, I've gotten a report of an L.A. Times reader notified that his existing Times account was expiring and that he'd have to use a social partner account going forward. The "partners" whose accounts can be used for this purpose are (in order displayed): Facebook Google Yahoo! AOL twitter myspace There is also this interesting text on the registration linkage page, suggesting a particularly cozy relationship with Facebook: Don't have an account with one of these providers?
