[ NNSquad ] "Legally" spying via cell phones
"Legally" spying via cell phones http://bit.ly/cJp40F (CNET) The "number to name" mapping technique described would likely be effective in most cases against any numbers, including "non-published" ones. This is just another example of how CNID has been subverted in potentially dangerous ways and needs a major security overhaul. Laws alone won't be sufficient. The part about listening to people's voicemail is old news. It's well known that caller ID spoofing can be used to access the voicemail of parties who neglect to assign a passcode to their voicemail. In fact, Google Voice quite responsibly and *explicitly* warns of this possibility if you try to set it up so that vm messages can be retrieved without a passcode. If you don't use a passcode with your voicemail, you might as well just publish your voicemail messages on Comedy Central's website. --Lauren-- NNSquad Moderator
