Facebook to begin behavorial marketing based on "browsing history" http://bit.ly/cj7YvP (Switched) As the article notes, this isn't really "browsing history" in a traditional sense, since users will reportedly need to select a "Facebook button" on other pages to indicate their interest in materials on those pages to be incorporated into their behavioral marketing profile. If this is an accurate description of what Facebook has in mind, its effectiveness as an advertising tool seems somewhat problematic, even if (?) users can later choose to delete particular topic items from their displayed ad mix. The question is, how often will people (even people who feel that Facebook is the 8th Wonder of the World) really hit the "send me more ads about this from someone else" button? And how will other advertisers feel about that? Hmm. --Lauren-- NNSquad Moderator
