[ NNSquad ] Re: [IP] WORTH READING This Is Why People Hate the Phone Company, AT&T - Tested
I’m glad that others are noticing that we being taken
advantage of. As I’ve pointed out – T-Mobile took a different approach
and tunnels over IP instead of requiring a special device. In both cases I am
contributing to their network and don’t get any compensation for
traffic that goes over a connection I pay for. We do need to ask why all cell phones don’t take advantage
of the IP path when available instead of requiring a special complex device
just for one protocol (which is primarily about billing)? What if we had a different
device for video and other device for land line audio (phones) etc. Seems crazy
except that it’s the norm. The real question is when do we learn from all these examples
and just recognize that there is something wrong with the twisty windy billable
paths model and go for a common infrastructure normalized to bits. From: David Farber
