School District Admits Spying via Webcams

Despite the attempts by the school district to suggest that their use
of webcam imagery only for "security purposes" wasn't a violation of
civil or criminal laws, the fact remains that -- apparently -- students
and parents were not informed that the remote webcam capability was
installed by the school district.

The prize quote is a disingenuous statement on the district's Web site
saying that there was nothing to prevent students from covering the
webcam with tape!  Perhaps students or parents would have done just
that if the district had bothered to inform anyone about the installed
spycam software, eh?  How much longer would this have gone on if the
lawsuit hadn't been filed?
