This matches my experience. Any website that allows comments without
registration will get zillions of "personal" (sex) ads, promotions for
Viagra, links to malware, etc.
Even if your require registration (with a valid email address and a
CAPTCHA), your board/group requires constant attention. On one board I
moderate, I end up deleting 3-5 users a day (and I'm only one of about 5
active moderators).
On another site (Joomla based) where I'm webmaster, we get about 10
registrations a day. Most of them are would-be spammers. I'm not sure
I see the point -- posts on Joomla sites need to be approved by a
manager or editor -- but for some reason the spammers keep trying.
