[ NNSquad ] Misleading ISP Ads

In light of the UK study mentioned in:

http://bit.ly/aupH9I (NNSquad)

regarding how many UK broadband users are paying
for service tiers that they don't need, it might
be worthwhile to revisit this item from late
last year:

http://bit.ly/6iHcqI (Gizmodo)

discussing misleading ISP ads.

Of course, a basic problem is the common "up to" speed
characterization in such ads. Given the wide variations in actually
delivered speeds (even just considering the local access path), it's
as if you bought a wireless plan that sold you 1000 minutes where each
individual minute is defined as anywhere from 1 to 60 seconds. (And
yeah, I mean all minutes, not just the standard ripoff where a partial
minute when you finish talking is rounded up to the next full minute.)
