I have been asked to forward the below:

Subject: New law could block access to anime, manga and slash fan sites in
Australia
From: "Mark McLelland" <markmc@uow.edu.au>

I feel that I should at least make an attempt to alert people
internationally to what is going on with the proposed internet filter and
its implications for Japanese/cultural studies academics here in
Australia. You can read a precis here of the implications of the
government's proposed filter -- I wrote the text that Dru cites

http://drupagliassotti.com/2010/01/18/australian-anime-manga-slash-fans-
may-run-afoul-of-law/<http://drupagliassotti.com/2010/01/18/australian-anime-manga-slash-fans-%0Amay-run-afoul-of-law/>

and I have a paper entitled

Australia's Proposed Internet Filtering System and its Implications for
Animation, Comics and Gaming (ACG) and Slash Fan Communities
(Forthcoming in issue 134 of Media International Australia, February 2010)

Once the paper is published I will put up a pdf version on the
university's open access research publications site that you can link to.

This is something that the international Media Studies establishment needs
to take on.

cheers,

Mark
