[ NNSquad ] Update: Re: Verizon squeezes Android Droid owners?
Update on this. The Wired article and its sources appear to be confused. Verizon has clarified that there are no special Droid/Exchange data plans. The difference between the quoted $30 and $45 dollar data plans relates to the standard cost of consumer data plans vs. certain business plans: "business accounts - 'corporate liable,' multiple lines, purchased through business sales, usually mediated by an IT department - costs $45/month." Standard consumer data plans are typically $30. http://bit.ly/2iKgbH (Gearlog) We can leave for another day the question of why business data plans are more expensive in the first place. Thanks to everyone who pointed me at the article updating this story. --Lauren-- NNSquad Moderator - - - On 11/03 20:03, Lauren Weinstein wrote: > > Wired is reporting that owners of the new Android Droid phone (Verizon) > will be charged an *extra* $15/mo *above* the normal cost of a monthly > data plan if they want Exchange access through the Verizon network. > > If this is actually true, it appears utterly indefensible, especially > within the Android ecosystem, and may have broader Net Neutrality related > implications as well. > > http://bit.ly/3KfnzL (Wired) > > --Lauren-- > NNSquad Moderator
