[ NNSquad ] Info leaked on BT's prioritization of Internet traffic
The following text reportedly describes aspects of how BT prioritizes Internet traffic. I'm told that this information has not been considered to be widely publicly known, particularly given that the IPTV offering is apparently usually described as using "separate bandwidth." This information comes from what I consider to be a reliable source who wishes to remain anonymous. I do not have independent confirmation of this information at this time. --Lauren-- NNSquad Moderator - - - The BT Homehub offered by BTR prioritises traffic based on services. The traffic is arranged into 6 prioritised queues: ! BT Vision (the IPTV offering) ! Green voice (BT Broadband talk) ! Red voice (VoIP over BT FON service) ! Green data (data available to owner of DSL line) ! Red data (BT FON data) ! Others (management etc.) If no integration is achieved between the (an application) and the Homehub, all traffic from the (application) will be treated as any other data on the green side and hence will map to the 4th level in the priority queue. In order to offer guaranteed QoS (the application) would need to be mapped to at least the second level in the queues above. If otherwise, there is a likelihood that the applications packets will be dropped at any point. This results in delays which can give a bad user experience for this application.
