"AT&T was quick to denounce the plan as a "bait and switch," after it paid 2.5 billion dollars last year to snap up a piece of the 700- MHz spectrum." Was this a prudent business decision? Shouldn't ATT's shareholders be more worried about SBC (who bought ATT) continuing original ATT's policy of spending big bucks for little, if anything, in return? Just remember the Excite@Home debacle when they blamed users for abusing their network when in reality they had repurposed a distribution network as a consumer network. It should be obvious that the idea of creating a separate network for each purpose doesn't make sense. If ATT doesn't understand this they should be trusted with network management. If they do but now are crying unfair we should simply not trust them. - Do I need to (again) explain why? [ Perhaps a more interesting question: Were these enormous prices being paid for spectrum predicated on a assumption/belief/fantasy that Big Telecom oligarchists would perpetually be able to monetize a scarce resource (spectrum) using sensibilities similar to those of the lords of medieval fiefdoms? Business conditions change, political winds change, and sometimes people even wake up to the fact that a critical resource for the public -- the Internet -- no longer can be ethically treated as an unlimited, unregulated piggy-bank for the giant, dominant ISPs. -- Lauren Weinstein NNSquad Moderator ] - - - -----Original Message----- From: nnsquad-bounces+nnsquad=bobf.frankston.com@nnsquad.org [mailto:nnsquad-bounces+nnsquad=bobf.frankston.com@nnsquad.org] On Behalf Of Lauren Weinstein Sent: Wednesday, September 23, 2009 1:45 AM To: nnsquad@nnsquad.org Subject: [ NNSquad ] Ohh.
