[ NNSquad ] tr.im URL shortening service shutdown, effective immediately

Greetings. The tr.im URL link shortening service has announced an
immediate shutdown in terms of new links, but promises that existing
links will redirect until at least 12/31/09. They also claim that
tr.im URLs in Twitter tweets "will not be affected" (whatever that
really means).

Their announcement is here: http://tr.im/

The increasingly widespread use of link shortening services (for a
variety of good reasons) brings with it a number of interesting issues
and potential risks, including privacy-related and (as we see in this
case) the longevity of existing links using such services, in the face
of changing business conditions.
