[ NNSquad ] EU Publishers want to erect copyright-based Internet walls

It's important to read this article:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/10/technology/internet/10copyright.html

a bit carefully to appreciate what's really going on in this arena.
When you see information publishers touting the music industry
royalties system as a model to be emulated, an attack of acid reflux
is likely to follow.

Schemes like Automated Content Access Protocol (ACAP) have the
potential to create massive new information barriers by vastly
expanding aggressive copyright restrictions on the Internet. I
originally discussed ACAP in Dec 2007 (ACAP: Don't Look Here! Please
Don't Look Here! Or Else? -

I'll hold the alert level at orange for now, but I'm ready to punch the
red button at any time.
