[ NNSquad ] Dan Glickman (MPAA) on NN

Hello,

Dan Glickman (MPAA) has something to say on NN:

(march 2008).pdf<http://www.mpaa.org/press_releases/dan%20glickman%20showest%20keynote%20address%20%28march%202008%29.pdf>
Frankly, it is the first time I see such an explicit attempt
to link NN to piracy.

I take this opportunity to introduce myself
(I have been lurking): I lead an academic research
group on multimedia processing and transmission [1].
I am also the founder and director of NEXA, a
multidisciplinary (tech, law, economics)
research center on internet & society.

As NEXA, we have just finished a comparative analysis
of the main Italian ISP's B2C standard contracts,
looking for what the contracts say regarding NN-related issues.
We will publish the results soon.

We have also been working, since May 2007,
on Neubot, the "net neutrality bot," a software
to make bottom-up, distributed measures
of Internet traffic. We expect to make the first
beta available in May. By the way, we are open
to collaboration, if anyone is interested.

[ Yes, of course collaboration on such remote measurement systems
makes a great deal of sense, and with luck the various projects
can coordinate each focus to avoid too much overlap. BTW,
the first NNSquad beta software (which in its initial incarnation
     is a Windows-based user-controlled detection/measurement application,
though a port for common Linux platforms should be straightforward)
is just about ready to go. It's mainly a matter of cosmetics
     and logistics at this point.
